I find that we can be frisky and playful with each other before we go to wherever we are going, and if someone there is pissy or belligerent or ornery or just in a bad mood, then one or both of us generally gets sucked in and by the time we get home, the frisky playfulness has long passed. Usually, it is replaced by the need to decompress a bit and even out, since the poisonous bad mood really affects us. Once we start down that road, it gets worse, since the person who needs to be left alone breaks our routine and the other person ends up picking up the slack, thus doing double time on chores and child duties, which is exhausting enough as it is but doubly so by one's self. Then should the afflicted person shake their bad mood and return to the routine, the other person is wiped, probably frustrated, and possibly in a legitimate bad mood of their own. So the cycle continues until everyone has slept on it. Granted, some things are obligatory and there's no avoiding them, but yesterday we were able to avoid them and that playful friskiness carried through and we found ourselves in the bedroom (not sleeping) before the night was through. |
