Friday, May 04, 2007A blog perkOccasionally, doing this blog leads to interesting places. Today, it leads to a book for me! We're one of the last stops on Rachel Kramer Bussel's She's On Top virtual book tour. I had a chance to read the book last month, and now I get to review it for Rachel. Lucky me! She's On Top is a collection of short erotic stories featuring dominant women and submissive men. The stories range from historical to contemporary, light play to cutting. I don't find a lot of erotic stories from the female dominant's point of view, so it was nice to read a book full of them. The stories were highly charged, featuring women using their sexual power in a variety of ways. I particularly enjoyed the cutting story, "Mark of Ownership" by Teresa Noelle Roberts. While cutting isn't a personal fetish, the depth of emotional connection and true affection between participants is palpable. The story "Ottoman Empress" by Noelle Kelly also highlights the affection and respect a dominant has for her submissive. Even while using her husband as a piece of furniture, she is always in touch with his well being and arousal. This is the kind of D/s play I like to see, and the kind that gets me off. No complaints. Some of the stories addressed kinks I don't have. I'm a sadist, not a bitch, and some of the stories in the book run toward the "domme as bitch" fantasy. I personally don't get off on intentional cruelty, but it can be a fetish for others. While the stories are written in the female's point of view, I think many of the stories might appeal more to the submissive man with a traditional punishment fantasy. In that light, Bussel did a good job of choosing a range of stories from all sides of the D/s world. While every story in the book may not appeal, you're sure to find a tale or two you fancy. You can buy this book through amazon.com or through Cleis Press. |
